Share links: kinds, expiry and revoking

Anyone-with-the-link, password and e-mail-gated links, and named people.

A share link opens one presentation in a browser, without an account. You can make as many links per deck as your plan allows, label each one ("Board", "Investor A") and compare its analytics totals on Team. The Share dialog also shows lifetime opening counters used for link view limits.

KindWho can open it
Anyone with the linkWhoever has the URL.
PasswordWhoever has the URL and the password.
E-mail gateWhoever has the URL and can receive a six-digit code at their address. You can limit it to company domains.
Named peopleOnly the people you add, signed in with that address. They get an e-mail.

Which kinds your workspace can use depends on the plan; locked options in the share dialog name the plan that includes them. See Pricing.

Open Share, then create a link or choose Edit beside an existing, unrevoked link. You can change its label, expiry, view limit, retained version, download permission and available domain or embed restrictions, then choose Save link. This also works for expired links and links that have reached their view limit. The link address stays the same. A link’s kind cannot change; create a new link when changing from public access to a protected kind.

On Pro and Team, choose Edit beside a password-protected link, enter New password, then choose Save link. Leave the field blank to keep the current password. The field appears only for password-protected links; public and email-code links do not have it. Replacing the password signs out viewers who unlocked the link with the previous password.

  • Expiry: the link stops working at a date and time you choose.
  • View limit: the link closes after a number of new viewers.
  • Pinned version: the link keeps showing one version even after you upload a new one. Unpinned links always show the current version. Pinning does not prevent pruning: Free keeps 3 versions, Pro 20, Team all. If a later upload removes the pinned version, update the link to a retained version.
  • Downloads: allow viewers to download the original file, or not (the default).

Revoking

Revoke a link in the share dialog and it stops working. People who already have the deck open lose it within 30 seconds; anyone opening the link afterwards sees "This link is no longer active." A link that expires or runs out of views refuses new openings at once, and an already-open viewer loses it within 15 minutes.

What viewers see

The deck, full screen on any device, with keyboard and touch navigation, plus a button to report abuse. Viewers never see your workspace, your other decks or who else viewed. Gated links do not reveal the deck title in link previews until they are unlocked.

When you paste an anyone-with-the-link URL into Slack, Teams, WhatsApp or an e-mail, the preview shows the deck title and a picture of its first slide.

Embedding

On Pro and Team, a link can name the websites allowed to place it in an iframe. Set the sites when creating the link, or open Share → Edit beside an existing, unrevoked link. In Websites that may embed this link, enter up to ten sites such as https://their-site.com, then choose Save link. Clear the field to refuse all embedding. Any site outside the list is refused, and Free links cannot be embedded at all. The snippet is shown next to the link in the share dialog. See what Lumdeck does and does not do.
